| Adjunct
Faculty, a Valuable Asset
With the courts,
government agencies, and law firms located only blocks away, UC Hastings
staffs its adjunct faculty with senior members of the judiciary,
principals of major law firms, and leading public officials in criminal
law, environment, immigration, and civil liberties areas.
Student Evaluations and Faculty Reports
Faculty performance is evaluated by students in every class. Each year
the evaluations are compiled and a summary of the results is available
to students. In turn, each member of the faculty writes an annual report
on the scope of engagement in teaching, service, and scholarship.
Supreme Court Clerks
Members of the faculty have served as Supreme Court clerks, three to
Justice Harry Blackmun, one to both Justice William Brennan and Justice
Potter Stewart, and one each to Justice Anthony Kennedy, Justice
Thurgood Marshall, and Chief Justice William Rehnquist.
Widely Used Casebooks
Members of the faculty have written more than 25 casebooks widely in use
in law schools around the country. The subjects include taxation,
evidence, civil procedure, contracts, constitutional law, immigration,
torts, collective bargaining, insurance, comparative law, antitrust,
criminal law and remedies.
Praise from Students
In surveys conducted with UC Hastings law students, the faculty earned the
highest ratings according to factors important to students in their
legal education. The students gave faculty members strong points.
